How the Light Recommendation Calculator Works
The Light Recommendation Calculator helps you determine the optimal lighting setup and operating costs for your grow space. Here’s an overview of each section:
- Space Dimensions: Enter the width and length of your grow area in feet. This calculates the total coverage area, helping determine the number of lights needed.
- Target PPFD Level: Choose the desired PPFD (Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density) level for your plants, depending on CO₂ levels and light requirements.
- Electricity Rate: Enter the cost per kWh for your area. This lets the calculator estimate monthly and yearly energy expenses.
- Light Cycle: Select the number of hours the lights will be on daily. This is used to compute the operating time and costs.
- Cost per Light: Enter the cost per light fixture. This is factored into the total cost, including upfront and ongoing costs over 1, 3, and 5 years.
Based on these inputs, the calculator recommends the number of 600W and 1000W lights needed, as well as their total operating costs.

Step-by-Step Guide to Using the Calculator
- Gather Required Information: Measure your grow area and decide on your target PPFD level and light cycle. Know your electricity rate and the cost of your lighting fixtures.
- Enter Grow Area Details: Input the width and length of your grow area to calculate the total space.
- Select PPFD Level and Light Cycle: Choose your target PPFD level based on your growth goals and CO₂ environment. Then select the light cycle duration.
- Enter Equipment Cost and Energy Rate: Enter the price per light and electricity rate (cents per kWh) for accurate cost projections.
- Calculate Recommendation: Press “Calculate Recommendation” to receive details on recommended light fixtures, total energy usage, and cost estimates.
