Product Description
Why Under Canopy?
A quality overhead fixture should always be your first investment.
But even the best top lighting has limitations. As canopies become thicker, fewer usable photons reach the lower portions of the plant. The result is uneven flower development, more lollipopping, and lower buds that rarely match the quality of the tops.
The ProTerp UnderCanopy was designed to solve that problem—not by overpowering the canopy with red light, but by delivering a spectrum engineered specifically for the environment beneath it.
Not Every Under-Canopy Light Is Built the Same
| Typical Under Canopy | ProTerp UnderCanopy |
|---|---|
| Single blue peak | Triple Blue + Cyan |
| Mostly 660nm red | Dual Red — 640nm + 660nm |
| Little or no green | Dedicated Green |
| Designed to maximize PPE | Designed for balanced plant performance |
| Generic diode layouts | CMH / Sunlike-inspired spectrum |
Engineered Around the Plant
Light reaching the lower canopy isn’t the same light leaving your fixture. As photons pass through multiple layers of leaves, the spectral balance changes.
Rather than simply copying the spectrum of our overhead fixtures, we engineered the ProTerp UnderCanopy to complement those natural changes while maintaining the balanced design philosophy behind the entire 2026 ProTerp lineup.
Designed to complement the spectral changes that naturally occur as light passes through a canopy.
🌿 Designed For
The ProTerp UnderCanopy is designed for growers running dense, high-performance indoor canopies where overhead lighting alone cannot maintain consistent intensity throughout the entire plant.
It is especially well suited for:
- Dense commercial flowering canopies
- Tall indoor plants
- Multi-layer SCROG and trellis systems
- Canopies approximately 2.5–4+ feet deep
- Growers looking to reduce excessive lollipopping
- Rooms focused on improving lower flower development and canopy uniformity
It works with virtually any quality overhead LED and is intended as supplemental lighting for rooms that are already well optimized.
🌈 The Spectrum
The ProTerp UnderCanopy uses a broad, multi-peak spectrum designed specifically for supplemental lighting beneath dense plant canopies.
- Triple Blue including dedicated 480nm cyan
- Dedicated green wavelengths
- Dual 640nm + 660nm reds
- Slightly increased red balance to complement filtered canopy light
⚡ Specifications & Performance
The ProTerp UnderCanopy delivers 351.5 µmol/s of broad-spectrum photon output while drawing just 123.5W, resulting in a measured system efficiency of 2.85 µmol/J.
Built around a 3728K CMH / Sunlike-inspired spectrum, it combines triple blue, dedicated green, and dual red wavelengths to provide balanced supplemental lighting beneath the canopy without relying on stripped-down, red-heavy spectral designs.

Why We Built It
For years we criticized most under-canopy fixtures because we didn’t believe they offered enough benefit to justify the cost. Most were little more than red-heavy light bars designed around efficiency numbers rather than plant performance.
Improvements in diode technology, efficacy, optics, and spectral engineering finally made it possible to build an under-canopy fixture we’d actually run ourselves.
This is the result.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need under-canopy lighting?
No. If you’re still running an older overhead fixture, upgrade that first.
Will it work with my existing lights?
Yes. It was designed to complement virtually any quality overhead LED.
Why does it contain more red than your overhead fixtures?
Because the spectrum changes after passing through the canopy. We adjusted the spectral balance to better complement the light environment lower in the plant while maintaining a broad-spectrum output.
Can I replace my overhead fixture with these?
No. They’re supplemental lighting designed to work alongside a primary fixture.
